The Islands Of The Bahamas are a gracious host to the sailing world as crews from 12 countries compete in Nassau during the International Star Class Western Hemisphere Championship 2010.
Thirty two-man teams began competition on April 13, with a warm up in the Harry Knowles series, and the Western Hemisphere Championship itself beginning on April 14 and continuing until April 17. “The event is another golden opportunity to have Bahamians test their skills against other international sailors at the highest levels of the sport,” said Paul Hutton-Ashkenny, co-chairman of the regatta. “It also provides the country with the opportunity to welcome guests from as far away as Australia and showcase our spectacular sailing venue.”
This week’s regatta is the first time since 2005 that the Star Class Western Hemisphere Championship has sailed in The Bahamas.
“Top international sailors from around the world love coming to The Bahamas to compete,” said Mr. Hutton-Ashkenny. “Sailors know that they will not only experience a professionally run regatta to the very highest standards, but that they will also be able to enjoy the impeccable hospitality that is one of the great hallmarks of our country.”
Nassau is also the home of the Miami to Nassau Ocean Race, which is a November fixture on the calendar of The Islands Of The Bahamas.
